IN ADDITION to the IAU’s programme of World and Continental Championships events, up to three (3) IAU-Cup events can be organized each year for each crossbow discipline. These competitions, which can be run over a “long weekend”, are designed to provide athletes with high-level competition in between major IAU Championships. IAU Cup events are also an opportunity for organizers that are new to IAU crossbow shooting to host a recognized international event on a reduced budget.
IAU Cup events originated from inter-nation Match-crossbow competitions in Europe. One such contest took place in Austria at the Blintendorf shooting ranges (Karl and Lotte Marschnig) in St. Viet and der Glan in September 1984 which attracted entries from 5 nations. This lead to the first IAU-registered 10 metre Match-crossbow “Euro-Cup” which was organized by the German Shooting Federation (DSB) at Frankfurt-Main, Germany in April 1990.
In November 1995, at Näfels, Switzerland the 1st IAU 10 metre Match-crossbow World-Cup was combined with the 9th International SGU-Cup (the well-known 10 meter airgun invitational event organized by Gabriel Kundert). Athletes from more than 25 countries took part in the Match-crossbow contest.
APPLICATIONS TO HOST IAU Cup-events (Match and/or Field-crossbow) must be registered with the relevant IAU Technical Committee before the end the year preceeding the intended start date of the competitions.
