Report: IAU Field Crossbow World Championships Dunavarsány 2025

End of competitions, start of memories.

For a week, we shared and enjoyed the kind hospitability of our friends from the Hungarian Crossbow Shooting on a location that can be called a traditional one starting from now. After hosting the Field WCH 2023 and the Field WCF in the same year, the top event of the IAU, the World Championships, returned to Dunavarsány for the second time.

After spending the last World Cup in pouring rain, this time we faced the other side of the palette, with more than 40 degrees in the sun. But, this is Sparta, this is field crossbow. We are glad that all participants finished the competitions in good health, without the need of any medical intervention. Many thanks to the organisers for thinking about eventualities like this and for arranging for the appropriate measures.

Special congratulations to Martin Oborovečki (CRO) for his incredible performance, earning him 4 gold medals!

Check the links for the Duna Cup results, the WCH results and for the actual world ranking. We are looking forward to the upcoming Field Crossbow World Cup Final in Vienna / AUT!

World Championships Day Two: Match Play Eliminations and Semi-Finals

Second day of World Championships is traditionally reserved for Match Play duels till semi-finals, where individual shooters and teams work their way up a tournament bracket in a knock-out elimination mode.

The matches brought some surprises, where seeded shooters did not make it to the semi-finals, and some dramatic moments, where finally a one-bolt shoot-off, including measuring the distance of the bolt to the target centre, decided about the advancement to the semi-finals.

Amélie Pernin and Tiffanie Trouillet (both FRA) wait for the Jury (Dieter Englert / AUT) decision on semi-final advancement:

And Amélie wins!

World Championships Day One: A Warm welcome to IR900.

Blue skies and 37-39°C in the shadow – this is National Olympic Training Centre Dunavarsány 2025, the first and most intense competition day of the Field Crossbow World Championships. Hungarian Crossbow Shooting took the advantage of the experience collected two years before at this site. 64 competitors from 8 countries gathered to determine the best in class for the next two years period.

The World Championships IR900 event was preceded by Duna Cup, an IR900 competition allowing the shooters to get used to the range and to the conditions. No, we do not call it a warm-up. The results can be looked up here.

France and Croatia emerged as the strongest teams, but the medals went to every nation on stage.

A special price, a designer watch, was dedicated to the winner of the 50m distance series. The donor – József Barányi – is a former multiple World Champion and although already retired, his world records can be still found in the actual lists. His 299 points in the 50m distance was best approached by Domagoj Pereglin of Croatia today with 295.

Hungarian Crossbow Shooting, the organizer, provides also a YouTube streaming service for the duration of the competition.
